Commute costs, made clearer.
Try sample cost-sharing and subsidy scenarios for CommuteU’s long-term model. This is a fictional calculator—not an active benefit application, student balance, or promise of reimbursement.
Choose a sample expense policy
Real pods would select only from mutually acceptable policies, with unanimous consent where required. These are demonstration categories, not finalized pilot terms.
Fictional demonstration only. No institution has committed to providing these example benefits. A 100% setting illustrates a possible fully funded program, not automatic free transportation. Real coverage would be limited by program funding, eligible costs, benefit caps, validated rides, and approved eligibility rules.
A reliable pod may become eligible for support.
CommuteU is designed to evaluate factors such as attendance, completed rides, pod stability, founding-member retention and consent-neutral voluntary participation. Approved funding rules could connect operational consistency to eligibility.
Eligibility is not triggered by an arbitrary Pod Health score. Actual reward rules also require Pod Stability, Maturity Coverage, sustained qualifying weeks, valid trip evidence, and a funded institutional program.
The slider is a conceptual illustration, not a computed or predictive score. Financial assistance is never automatic and is not determined by this control.
How rewards and coverage work
Participating institutions would define covered expenses, caps and funding. Qualifying requires the pod to meet separately approved conditions for Pod Health, Pod Stability, pair maturity and consecutive weeks—not simply completing a single ride or reaching a self-selected score.
Full coverage, if offered, would apply only within the institution's approved eligible expense categories and program limits. Costs outside those categories may remain payable. A pod that qualifies for a reward but has no overlap with the subsidized cost categories can receive the program's defined equivalent alternative reward instead; it does not automatically receive cash or full coverage.
Transparent by design
Under the initial pilot design, CommuteU calculates approved costs and private balances, while payments are settled outside the app. Institution-funded support, where available, applies to eligible verified expenses before remaining costs are shared under the pod’s agreed allocation policy.
